After a few almost all-nighters, I have completed the individual CIF ranks for Boys...
Computer did a pretty good job. (Most of the time) There are some occasional glaring bugs, but they are easy to spot and fix...
A good "jumping off point" is how I would describe them.
I did my best to get as many league tournaments inputted, but honestly, it was just a case of too many and too little time... One of the hardest parts is going through league submissions and correcting first / last names, and checking for spelling errors... (ugh)
A quick note: I instructed the computer to follow CIF Seeding Guidelines.... to a point.... I also tried to do my best to program in "common sense" and by that I mean, if a freshman wrestler (or any wrestler that didn't place at CIF last year) placed at a difficult tournament (Doc B, TOC, Zinkin, etc) I told the computer to value that as if the wrestler WAS a CIF placer last year...
Anyway, here are the computer rankings. And some other fun stuff...
Twodogs:
Sure! In future I will post SS Top 50; will probably have to keep it to 50 otherwise the pdf file would be huge!
This is cool and all. Lots of things to consider with the computer rankings as opposed to a human doing it. But the one thing that I would love to see, not sure if you could do it or not, but I'd like to see the SS rankings. As I scroll through the names I see someone ranked 401st in the Southern Section, I think it would be cool to see that list. Breaking up into CIF's is also neat, but if you could post another with everyone in the SS that would be fun to look at? Just my two cents.
Of the 112 guys in the top 8 in all 14 weight classes in your rankings for a given CIF, what percentage do you expect to finish top 8 this weekend? I know how much effort it takes to create these, but beyond identifying head-to-heads I don't think these rankings should be relied on at any seeding meetings today to justify a seed. It's just too hard to create any computer model to predict outcomes for something as unpredictable as the top-8 at any given CIF weight class. The seeding commitees won't get it perfect, of couse, but I don't think these rankings should be used as a jumping off point either. Even with all the in-season tournaments, there is just not enough reliable data to sort much out beyond the obvious guys at the top. But it doesn't take a computer model to predict that Ronnie Ramirez will do okay this weekend.
Located a Bug—there was a display error on a few kids, where it was showing an outdated weight; this caused some issues...
Here are corrections for that bug,
Harlan, it 1000% matters; I just might not have had the time to put in that league tournament. Your kid should be ahead and moved ahead at seeding meetjnf
Not sure if it matters for seeding, but my wrestler Tyler Hiraoka at 113 pinned the Lakeside kid at league and got ranked lower.
