California wrestlers at the Southern Scuffle

    in General

125lbs - No one in the championship round. However, Selma's Tristan Lujan, now competing at Michigan State is a match away from placing. He had a great win in the consolation round by defeating 2020 NCAA qualifier Reece Witcraft (Oklahoma State) 10-6.

133lbs - Aaron Nagao of Minnesota is in the semifinal round after defeating the No. 3 seed in the first round and then knocking wrestlers from Gardner-Webb and Missouri. His semifinal opponent will be Codi Rusell of Appalachian State, a three-time NCAA qualifier.

    141lbs - No one

    149lbs - No one

157lbs - Gilroy's Chase Saldate (Michigan State) is in the quarterfinal round after defeating his first three opponents. He obliterated Penn State's Joe Lee 9-1 in the quarterfinal round and will now face All-American Brock Mauller of Missouri.

174lbs - Bakersfield's Albert Urias advanced to the quarterfinal after defeating opponents from Virginia Military and West Virginia. His Cinderella run stopped in the quarterfinals by NCAA qualifier Cade DeVos of South Dakota State. He will compete tomorrow against Austin Brenner of North Dakota State who has participated at the Big12 tournament in two occasions.

285lbs: Seth Nevills of Penn State is the lone wrestler from California still alive in the heavyweight class. After falling in the second round, Seth won two consecutive matches to advance to the second day. Seth will take on Tyrie Houghton of North Carolina State, a wrestler that earlier on the day defeated Seth's brother (A.J.) 6-4. Seth will try and redeem the Nevill's surname.
